I Read Banned Books

At "I Read Banned Books," community leaders will share a dynamic excerpt from their favorite banned books. The event is co-sponsored by the ACLU of Nevada, Washoe County Libraries, and the UNR Creative Writing Club.
- Where: The Rotunda of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at UNR
- When: Wednesday, September 28th at 6pm
- Admission: Free and Open to the Public. Refreshments provided
Moderated by Chris Coake, UNR Professor of Creative Writing, the celebration will be an opportunity for community leaders to share a dynamic excerpt from their favorite banned or challenged book. The following community leaders are scheduled to read:
- Andy Barbano - First Vice President, Reno-Sparks NAACP
- Christina Barr - Executive Director, Nevada Humanities
- Aaron Bennedetti - UNR Student
- Rebecca Gasca - Legislative and Policy Director, ACLU of Nevada
- Arnie Maurins - Executive Director, Washoe County Library System
- Alex Miller - Elementary student whose book was confiscated because of its content
- Dennis Myers - News Editor, Reno News & Review
- Will Roger - Founding Board Member, Burning Man
- Angela Spires - President, UNR Creative Writing Club
- Sam Stone - Nevada journalist
